Project budgets
The budget is the approved estimate, line by line. The original budget stays fixed, and every change is added on top with an amount, a source and a reason. You can always see both what was decided at the outset and where the budget stands now.

Original and current budget
The original budget is locked when the estimate is approved. Approved variations, revisions and other changes are totalled separately and, added to the original budget, give the current budget.
Changes with a source
A budget change always has an amount and a reference or reason, and whoever makes it needs permission for budget changes. Nothing is overwritten: every change is added and appears in the history.
The whole portfolio
The Finance page brings together budget, forecast and variance for your organisation’s projects. Totals are shown per currency and are never added together across currencies.
Budget changes
No budget change without a decision
A variation linked to a budget item sits as an expected change until it is approved under Project finances. Only then is the amount included in the current budget, and a new budget version is saved.
- Expected, submitted and approved changes kept separate
- Contingency set aside, released and drawn down
- Saved budget versions to compare
